Praia da Vitória is a Portuguese city located in the eastern part of Terceira Island, in the central group of the Azores archipelago, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, with about 6,600 inhabitants (2011).

It is the headquarters of the municipality of Praia da Vitória[2] with 162.29 km² of area and 21 035 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 11 parishes. The municipality, one of the two of the island, is bordered to the south and west by the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo and the Atlantic Ocean to the north and east.

Permanently installed the first settlers on terceira island, passed Jácome de Bruges, first captain of the owner of the island, to the place of Praia, where he fixed his residence, along with his lieutenant Diogo de Teive.

The beach was thus constituted in the head of the captaincy of Terceira between 1456 and 1474, the year in which the island was divided into two captaincies, by the disappearance of the donatário, leaving the captaincy of Praia in charge of Álvaro Martins Homem.

The eleven parishes that make up the municipality of Praia da Vitória are as follows: Agualva, Biscoitos, Cabo da Praia, Fonte do Bastardo, Fontinhas, Lajes, Porto Martins, Santa Cruz, Quatro Ribeiras, São Brás and Vila Nova.
