Um dos expoentes dessa actividade foi a Fábrica de Xarope de Alfarroba da Família Sequeira, transferida nos anos Sessenta do Séc. XX da zona actualmente designada por ’Ribeira Parque’ no inicio da Av. da Liberdade, para o sítio da Ponte de Salir, em Salir, onde durante muitos anos laborou como única unidade em toda a Península Ibérica, produzindo para a Indústria Nacional ligada ao Café, e também para a do Chocolate na Suíça. A Cofal laborou intensamente nos anos 1970/80.
