’O planalto das Cesaredas é um território de calcário com cerca de 140 milhões de anos, que se apresenta como um prolongamento do sistema serrano Aire/Montejunto. A cota mais alta do Planalto é de 164m de altura e a mais baixa é de 32m. Predominam as formações do período Jurássico, sendo o calcário a única rocha ocorrente. As rochas têm espécies únicas de invertebrados fósseis do Jurássico Médio e Superior.
Ao longo do Planalto das Cesaredas, podemos observar campos de lapiás e a presença de vários algares e grutas, que guardaram um importante espólio arqueológico. Em relação à história do local pode referir-se a existência de vestígios pré-históricos, a permanência dos Romanos entre os séculos II a.C. e V d.C. e o evento histórico do combate da Roliça, aquando das invasões napoleónicas. A lenda e a tradição popular associam-no a acampamentos dos exércitos de César, a caçadas reais e aos amores clandestinos entre D. Pedro I e Inês de Castro.’
