O seu Pavilhão era sitio da ex-morada de S.A.R. - Conde de Barcelona, mas paralelamente surgiu um núcleo de jogadores portugueses que através de um contrato de arrendamento com a Estoril Plage, S.A. provocou a origem da fundação oficial do Clube - 1945.

Esta data coincide com o ano em que foram inaugurados os segundos nove buracos e adaptação dos restantes, projecto este concebido pelo Arquitecto escocês Mackenzie Ross discípulo de um dos mais notáveis Arquitectos de Golf - Donald Ross.

O troféu mais antigo do Clube data de 1938 e ostenta o nome de Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva - o primeiro presidente da Federação Portuguesa de Golfe, mas existem registos de jogos desde 1929 tendo sido ali que se jogaram a partir de 1934 os primeiros campeonatos nacionais de amadores, dominados por Visconde Pereira Machado (Nuno de Brito e Cunha). Posteriormente em 1945 o percurso passou a receber invariavelmente o Campeonato Internacional de Portugal e o Open de Portugal neste caso entre 1953 e 1972 e ainda em 1974 e 1987.

Foi igualmente no Clube de Golf do Estoril que se formaram os primeiros profissionais Portugueses de Golfe, Henrique Paulino, Joaquim Rodrigues e Carlos Aleixo.

Por tudo isto ao entrar no Club-house sente-se o peso e o fascinio da história, notando-se que o espírito com que o Clube nasceu tem sido preservado ao longo dos tempos.

O campo já sofreu algumas alterações ao projecto inicial, nomeadamente quando no final da década de 80 foi atravessado pela auto-estrada de Cascais, perdendo dois dos seus mais emblemáticos buracos. O buraco 9 - par 3 e o buraco 16 par 3 de 200 metros.

Várias personagens foram Sócios e ou frequentadores do nosso Clube entre elas destacam-se S.A.R. - Conde de Barcelona, assíduo jogador e Sócio do nosso Clube, seus filhos e o Duque de Windsor. Aliás ainda hoje são jogados dois Torneios alusivos a estas personalidades.

É um dos Clubes com mais vitórias no Campeonato Nacional de Inter-Clubes Masculino - Taça Visconde Pereira Machado (um torneio criado em 1944).

No Campeonato Nacional de Inter-Clubes Feminino - Taça Nini Guedes de Queiroz (um torneio criado 1992) o Clube foi vitorioso em 6 edições e Vice Campeão 5 edições.

A nível colectivo é ainda a segunda potência do país como demostram os títulos de vice-campeão 2000 e 2002.

Individualmente, além do Visconde Pereira Machado surgiram outras lendas do Golf Nacional como o seu filho homónimo ou José Lara de Sousa e Melo (neto do fundador) eleito pela Federação Portuguesa de Golfe em Dezembro de 2002 o melhor Amador Português de sempre.

Actualmente o Clube de Golf do Estoril é um dos Clubes com mais jogadores praticantes de golf em Portugal.
