The spas became known by the name of Alcafache due to the railway station with that name, which is approximately 7 km away, in the village of Moimenta de Maceira Dão. People, when they came from all over the country to the spas, and did it by train, knew that they had to stop at the Alcafache station, however, the spas are located in the Municipality of Viseu, in the village of Banho, and not in Moimenta de Maceira Dão (Alcafache), which is in the Municipality of Mangualde.
