Cidade branca e nobre, Estremoz pode dividir-se em dois núcleos que marcam a sua evolução: o casario medieval junto ao castelo e, fora das muralhas, a vila moderna.

Estremoz possui um rico património cultural, no qual se destaca o castelo com as suas muralhas medievais e a antiga cidadela (séc. XIII) onde está atualmente situada a Pousada Rainha Santa Isabel que faz parte da rede de Pousadas de Portugal.

Estremoz tornou-se conhecida sobretudo pela extração e exploração do mármore branco, de grande qualidade. Na verdade, a região contribui em 90% para o facto de Portugal ser o segundo maior exportador de mármore do mundo.

Igualmente famosos são os barros vermelhos da região, que deram origem aos bonecos tradicionais tão fáceis de encontrar nas lojas de artesanato da cidade.

A white and noble city, Estremoz can be divided into two nuclei that mark its evolution: the medieval houses next to the castle and, outside the walls, the modern town.

Estremoz has a rich cultural heritage, including the castle with its medieval walls and the old citadel (13th century) where the Pousada Rainha Santa Isabel is currently located, which is part of the Pousadas de Portugal network.

Estremoz became known above all for the extraction and exploitation of high quality white marble. In fact, the region contributes 90% to the fact that Portugal is the second largest marble exporter in the world.

Equally famous are the region’s red clay, which gave rise to the traditional dolls that are so easy to find in the city’s craft stores.
