Santos Townhouse is a 5-storey complex that houses 35 T1 and T2 apartments. Its history dates back to 1648, when the king of Portugal ordered the construction of a convent to house the Capuchin friars who arrived from Brittany, France. After the extinction of the religious orders in 1834, the building was used as a residence for young orphans. Unfortunately, in 1837, a terrible fire completely destroyed the building, reducing it to ashes.

However, in 1851, a new building was erected on the same site by José Antonio da Luz Robim. Following the typical architecture of the time, the building has large windows, wrought-iron balconies and a beautiful façade covered in tiles. Being the residential building with the largest tiled façade in Lisbon, it has been officially classified as a heritage site of municipal interest and is a true historical treasure.

The current rehabilitation of the building aims to preserve its heritage characteristics while incorporating new construction techniques. In addition to making the building more earthquake-resistant, measures have also been taken to reduce noise, provide thermal comfort, and save energy.
