The first references to the existence of the parish date back to the 16th century (before 1514) and its importance comes from the intense agricultural activity.

The parish of Luz de Tavira is located six kilometers from Tavira and is bordered to the south by the Ria Formosa and to the north by the parish of Santo Estêvão.
