The parish of Caia, São Pedro and Alcáçova was established in 2013 as part of a national administrative reform, by aggregating the former parishes of: Caia and São Pedro; and Alcáçova. This parish belongs to the urban center of Elvas, being limited by the River Caia, Spain and by S. Vicente, Barbacena and Campo Maior. Its patron saint is S. Pedro and the Festas dos Hortelãos are held in the parish in honor of Mr. Jesus da Boa-Fé.
The current parish resulted from the annexation of Caia, whose patron saint was Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, S. Pedro in the city of Elvas and Alcáçova.
