Escaroupim is a typical fishing village, formed in the mid-30’s by fishermen from Praia da Vieira (Marinha Grande), who seasonally came to the Tagus to do the winter fishing campaigns, especially the shad, looking for the sustenance of their numerous families in the Tagus, in a Tagus rich in fish, returning to Praia da Vieira in the summer.
